What is SOUND?

The mission of SOUND is to create a label for clothes to identify those made in an environmentally AND socially responsible fashion. By choosing such products, we can help stop carbon emissions, wasteful consumption and unfair labor practices.

Why SOUND?

Where have your pants been? How were they made? By whom? What we wear has tremendous environmental and human rights implications. Producing one cotton t-shirt uses 500 gallons of water. 70% of child labor is in agriculture, supplying the raw materials for textiles. 25,000 tons of new textile fiber is disposed of each year in the US. Technology exists to make yarn both from fabric waste and recycled plastic; this reduces waste and the use of natural resources and labor in textile production.

The harvesting of materials and the clothing manufacturing process occurs all over the world. Together, we can improve labor conditions for workers worldwide, stop factories from damaging communities with chemical run-off, and neutralize wasteful consumption and carbon emissions to leave a better earth for future generations.

Why is SOUND interested in NY Web 2.0 for Grassroots Causes?

For sustainability and practical marketing reasons, and that I believe a social media based campaign willb effective, it would fabulous to connect with someone who shares interest in the topic and and help define the tools/technology to launch and manage a BIG online campaign.
